It is urgent to set up a multisectoral roundtable aimed at protecting environmental defenders and address land titling concerns of native communities

In recent years, seven environmental defenders at the Ucayali region have been murdered for protecting their lands from criminal mafias in the face of regional government neglect.

In light of this severe situation, civil society organizations, including Proética, requested that the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) implement a Multisectoral Roundtable to immediately and effectively address the threats and attacks against environmental defenders due to the advance of illegal activities in the Peruvian Amazon.

It also requests the participation of indigenous organizations and the Ombudsman’s Office as overseer of this process, in order to guarantee and ensure the demands of the affected native communities are heard and the commitments adopted by the government fulfilled.
